Now that we know who the Leaker-in-Chief is, Bush should fire himself.
Remember, Junior earlier promised to sack anyone found responsible for the leak which resulted in the exposure of a CIA agent. And Junior has been nothing short of obsessive about cracking down on leakers. Not surprising since there's a lot to leak in this Bush Jr. regime.
As John Dean pointed out in his recent congressional testimony, Junior is guilty of graver crimes than Nixon and Watergate and he should be impeached. For those who were born yesterday, Dean's testimony during Watergate was the beginning of the end for Nixon.
Not much hope of impeachment in this Republican-controlled Congress though. Well, maybe if the Democrats wrest control of both houses back. But don't bet on it even if that happens.
We don't feel as strongly that exposing a CIA operative is necessarily an impeachable offense. But we do feel that cooking up "evidence" of Saddam's "weapons of mass destruction" to get the American people into a reckless, bankrupting, and endless crusade is an impeachable offense of the "crimes and misdemeanors" variety.
Since Cheney was the one who leaked it (Junior authorized its leakage), Cheney must be fired by Junior before he fires himself. The last thing we want is for that nasty old man with the perennial snarl to take over officially as our Commander-in-Chief.
Note we say officially. Because unofficially, the triumvirate of Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush Senior are the real powers and work-horses behind the throne. Yep, this is a regency. Just like the Reagan regime. In Reagan's case, it was because of early stages of Alzheimer's which we now know for sure. Well, here, it's mental inadequacy and sloth of the Mortalist kind.

Bush Axes Cancer, Heart & Stroke Research
New York -- The Bush regime has given Americans fighting heart disease, stroke, and cancer its new year greeting! The lowest funding for the NIH (National Institutes of Health) in 30 years. This year's budget is less than last year's (2005) which was effectively 10% lower than prior years.
Squandering all on the so-called "war against terror," a one-time attack which killed around 3,000, the Bush junta says Drop Dead! to the 725,000 or so who will die from heart disease and stroke in 2006. And it gives the finger to the half million Americans who will die of cancer this year.
This is why we say we live in a Death Society. In the foremost Death Society. It is not rhetorical flourish. It is a fact of our lives. And it's killing us.
War, reckless, unnecessary, endless wars take priority every single time over the life-and-death needs of tens of millions of Americans struggling with cancer, heart ailment, and stroke. When you count their friends, associates, and families. you realize this is America. We have the numbers, but we don't count in The Death Society.
The one-time 3,000 deaths from 9/11 were tragic and horrendous. But no rational or humane society or state would try to prevent that from happening again by ignoring the desperate pleas for help from the overwhelming majority of its voters. Up to 70% of U.S. families and households are affected by the unholy trinity of heart disease, stroke, or cancer.
This does not merely show the disconnect between Washington and Main Street. More than that, it proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that Washington does not take its marching orders from Main Street. That it is in fact contemptuous of the deepest wishes of the overhwelming majority of U.S. voters because it sees no real power in them.
In a real democracy, the politicians are supposed to respond to the serious concerns of voters. What could be of more serious concern to tens of millions of Americans living with cancer, heart disease, stroke than funding for research to bring about treatments and cures in time to save them?!
And yet this is not a serious political issue in American politics. It is not just with Bush and his party that it's not a serious issue. It is not a serious issue either with the Democratic Party, which has a more sympathetic posture. The only way to make the politicos take this life-and-death issue of funding for cancer, heart disease, and stroke research seriously? Millions of Americans must make them understand that this is their overriding issue. That is, if you don't do right on this issue, we will vote against you, period. And throw you bums out.

Why 'Methuselah Prize' Will Not Save Us
This is an open letter to Aubrey de Grey of the Methuselah Foundation with the "Methuselah Prize." Elixxir challenges him to explain the reasoning behind why he believes The Methuselah Prize will snatch for us the prize every baby boomer yearns for -- the conquest of Old Age. Perhaps there is something Elixxir is missing in de Grey's logic because he still doesn't get it. At the same time, Elixxir will explain to Mr. de Grey why contemporary history tells us a prize is simply not going to do the trick. And if so, what will. And this letter ends with Elixxir's challenge to de Grey.
First of all, Elixxir reveals his bias in favor of de Grey. He agrees with Mr. de Grey on the goal of "curing" Old Age which comes with so much disease, suffering, misery, loss, grief, and eventually Death. If there is any real chance de Grey could procure this conquest of Old Age for us, surely Elixxir would be the first to cheer him on. Having said that, since we are embarked on an audacious goal and monumental mission and do not have the luxury of numbers, state wealth, or time, we must be unflinchingly sober and ruthlessly rational in asking whether this means (the Methuselah Prize) will get us to our end.
Preliminary impertinent question. Mr. de Grey claims to have raised 3 million dollars plus, a significiant sum which testifies to his rather proficient fundraising and promotional skills. But is this 3 million dollars best lying idle in the bank to serve our pressing goal of conquering human aging? Is not giving the prize out immediately somehow the optimum way to inspire and stampede scientists into pursuing anti-aging research? Correct Elixxir if he is wrong. But to his best knowledge, the so-called Methuselah Prize has never been awarded to any scientist yet. At least not in any sizable amount $100,000 or over. Why is this?! That is like not using our meager ammo and primitive weapons in the heat of and at the height of this do-or-die battle.
CAN WE DO BETTER THAN NOBEL PRIZE?
Yes, prizes don't hurt. But history shows what really works -- a hundred times, a thousand times more powerfully -- is state funding for research.
The Nobel Prize is as good as it gets for prizes. Yet most scientists or grad students who choose to go into a field or line of research don't do it because of the Nobel Prize, because even though it offers a prize of a million plus dollars, and a lot more prestige indeed, it is not a sure thing. It's not something that can sustain a researcher economically over the years. History clearly shows that what does greatly encourage grad students and even established researchers to go into a new field or new line of research is state funding, lots of state funding.
The examples of this fact -- that it is state funding and not prizes which really spurs research and breakthroughs -- are abundant and undeniable. The Manhattan Project. The Apollo Program. The National Institutes of Health. National Cancer Institutes.
Even if the Methuselah Prize goes up to 10 million, it will still fall far short to achieve our monumental goal! What is needed is state funding, and what opens up the spigot of state funding so it gushes out to the tune of hundreds of millions, and even hundreds of billions of dollars? Political pressure, lobbying, and grassroots activism.
HISTORY LESSON FROM AIDS, BREAST & PROSTATE CANCER
AIDS, breast cancer, and prostate cancer show how true this is, even in this age of budget deficits and reckless military adventurism.
AIDS went from almost zero funding to just under one billion dollars at the end of Reagan's regime. Yes, Reagan, who courted the Religious Right shamelessly to the point of refusing to even mention the word AIDS, was forced by ACT-UP and its relatively handful of activists into appropriating this amount! Without this, there would be no AIDS cocktails which have saved and prolonged the lives of millions.
Women with breast cancer have organized themselves into groups like the National Coalition for Breast Cancer and have forced the federal gov't to increase funding for breast cancer 800 percent in a few years!
MICHAEL MILKEN & LASKER PRIZE: THEY GOT IT
Prostate cancer activists like Michael Milken have compelled the budget for prostate cancer to increase by 20 times to its current half a billion dollars! But Milken understands it is nowhere enough for him, a billionaire, to open wide his deep pocket and set up a foundation that has so far distributed 245 million dollars. But that it's absolutely crucial to lobby the government to match his contributions many times over. Even with all this money, there is still no cure for prostate cancer, as Milken has to admit in his latest letter to his supporters.
Milken of course was not the first to realize the importance of state funding. The pioneer health-issues activist-lobbyist was probably Mary Lasker. She and her wealthy husband set up the Lasker Foundation way back in 1942. The foundation gives out the most prestigious and influential prize for biomedical research in the U.S., a prize which means that someone becomes a contender for the Nobel Prize. (In fact, a good number of its awardees went on to win the Nobel Prize.) And yet, Mrs. Lasker didn’t believe that her foundation’s largess would be sufficient for her crusade against cancer. No, she was astute enough to realize that there must in addition a lot of state funding for biomedical research and cancer research in particular. So she and a small coterie of influential lobbyists got the National Institutes on Health funded. She got the National Cancer Institute set up separately to focus on cancer, and she got Nixon and the U.S. Congress to declare a ”War Against Cancer.”
DO-IT-YOURSELF-ISM EQUALS DEATH
Can the Methuselah Prize really hope to match Milken in private foundation money? And isn't our goal so much more audacious than his, and if so, how can we possibly believe that we can succeed without massive state funding?!
To cure aging is a thousand times more audacious and complex a goal than to cure one of its symptoms like breast or prostate cancer. This we surely agree. So how can we expect to do it on the cheap? Yes, even 10 million is a joke and will get us nowhere. How can we believe that we can do this on a self-help basis?
Do-it-yourselfism equals Death. Elixxir has pointed this out in his book The ImmorTalist Manifesto. It has killed Roy Walford. It will surely kill every one on his Caloric Restriction List. And it will just as surely kill everyone who has given to the Methuselah Prize too.
It will kill all of us immortalists unless we start getting smart and adopt the right strategy which is so glaring, so historical, so irrefutable, that everyone sees it except us immortalists! And by everyone I mean everyone from civil rights activists, feminists, gays, and, yes, even the Religious Right! Not to mention activists for AIDS, breast and prostate cancer.
If we are to have a real chance at our common goal, then we must be clear-eyed and unsentimental about whether our means will get us to our end. It may be a valiant, noble try, but if it doesn't have a prayer to get me to where we want to go, then it is Naiveté and Romanticism that we simply cannot afford since the stakes are simply too high.

'West Wing' Star dead of Heart Attack at 58
New York -- In this holiday season, a heart attack killed John Spencer, a star of ”West Wing” who played a politico who survived a heart attack to run for Vice President. At the height of his career, Death came rudely to this self-confessed workaholic whose health took a backseat to the hit TV show.
For what does it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his own life?
This is the question his death confronts us with. It forces us to evaluate our own priorities. It makes us ask what indeed is the most important thing in our life? The foundation without which there can be no possibility of success or happiness?
Surely this TV and movie star could afford the best health care in the world that money can buy! Surely he can afford annual medical and heart checkups and cardiologists. Surely he was not one of the 46 million Americans without the money to buy any health insurance.
If Spencer had wanted to do an anti-heart-attack program, surely he could have easily afforded it. If he had demanded it as part of his contract on grounds that it’d slash his risk for a fatal heart attack, the producers of this lucrative long-running hit show would surely have said yes to all or part of the fees. After all, it’d be less expensive than losing him just as they are gearing up for his character to possibly become the VP.
Did Spenser have a prior heart attack? Was he overweight? We don’t know. But if he had, for example, a past heart attack and was currently overweight, then the risk of another heart attack -- this time terminal -- would have been quite serious.
So the question is what is it worth to a John Spencer if there is some program, some intervention which has a serious scientific probability of preventing a fatal heart attack? Well, it would be worth every penny he had. Because a tatal heart attack would mean he loses everything he owns and all his future potential earnings as a hot TV actor.
A heart transplant costs up to one million dollars. Heart surgery to clear up clog vessels could cost hundreds of thousands. And they’re hardly a sure thing, bringing with them serious risk of major complications, including death.
John Spenser, if he were smart, would have no hesitation about paying a million dollars for a program which can save his life. That would be his best bargain and investment, ever.
For others of us who are not Hollywood stars, an anti-heart-attack, anti-aging program will be less than a million. But yes, it must be enough to make us take notice. And count the cost. Because if we do, we will be fully committed to the program, and when we play the program as instructed, it will work like a charm.

For what does it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his own life?

Sharon's Gerontocracy
Stockholm -- Sharon gets a stroke. But the question is why would Israel or any country have Ariel Sharon as its Prime Minister? If you wanted someone for your small business, would you hire this morbidly obese person who's a stroke-waiting-to-happen? Can't Israel, in this time of crisis, do better than to entrust its future to this 77 year-old with no future? And to his outgoing vice-Prime Minister, erh, a 82 year old Simon Peres.
If this is not a gerontocracy, what is?
But let's not forget the gerontocracy in the U.S. Empire. Cheney and Rumsfeld, failures and retreads from the Vietnam War. They are the ones, along with George Bush Senior, who are regents for G.W. Junior. And the real powers behind the throne. China has already gotten rid of its gerontocrats, and is into its third generation of leaders. Bush & Blair are War Criminals, Nobel Prize Winner Pinter Points Out
Stockholm -- You have to be in Stockholm to watch uncensored on TV one of the most powerful lectures ever given by a winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. Harold Pinter, the British playwright suffering from cancer of the esophagus, points out the obvious: Bush & Blair are war criminals.
Now you'd think that this bombshell speech would be guaranteed headline front-page news! Instead, The New York Times ("all the news that's fit to print") tucks away this irrefutable, devastating truth-telling in its Theater section under the title "Playwright Takes a Prize and a Jab at U.S." The BBC did a similarly neat trick. Instead of "Nobel Laureate says Blair War Criminal," and instead of this being the headline, it allows for "Laureate blasts Iraq War 'lies'"
The New York Times and BBC are probably as good as it gets when it comes to hoping for some kind of balanced, objective, honest coverage from the Mortalist U.S. and U.K. media. So if this is how these two venerable Mortalist media cover what could have been an excellent national debate as to why Saddam & Milosevic are war criminals but not Bush & Blair since they have killed, maimed, or tortured tens of thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq, as a result of of an invasion contrary to U.N. Security Council's resolutions, and which U.N. Secretary-General Koffi Annan has rightly described as "illegal" and in violation of international law.
And if the above isn't enough, throw into this pot the gulags run by Bush in Guantanamo Bay and other CIA-run torture centers in Eastern Europe. the systematic fuck-you to the Geneva Conventions against torture

Bush's Unfair Trade Scheme Collapses
New York -- Despite three days of trying, Bush's unfair trade scheme for Latin America has been totally rejected. The trade talks summit has collapsed. This is the big story that Bush tries to obscure by his speech attacking Venezuela's Chavez. And it's a shame that the U.S. media still plays along. Even though Bush's public support is roughly at the level as Nixon's just before he was chased out of the White House.
No, it was not Venezuela's Chavez who "buried" Bush's unfair and unbalanced trade proposals. Rather, it was Brazil's Lula leading other former "banana republics" in refusing so-called "free trade" proposals in which Bush would continue his massive subsidies to Big Agri-Business in U.S. (while demanding Latin America and China dismantle what little subsidies they have). The proposals would also allow U.S. to continue its trade barriers against Brazil (i.e. high tariffs on Brazilian oranges, cotton, etc. so they cannot compete in American market.)
Now that's what "free" trade means. Unfair, unbalanced trade in favor of the U.S. Yes, free for the U.S., but costly and unfair to Brazil, other Latin American countries, and even to the EU.
Immortalism is of course for trade which is fair and balanced and which will really improve the quality of life of the majority in Brazil and Latin America. But we applaud this wise, courageous and principled No to Bush. Latin America has stood up. And it has every right to demand trade on fair and balanced terms, not the kind that it used to have to accept on bended knees.

We Immortalists are of course against any and all old dictatorships. But our memories are good enough to remember that most or all of those old bloodthirsty dictators like Chile's Pinochet, Panama's Noriega or Cuba's Batista were installed, supported, and funded by the Mortalist U.S. empire. So if there's any democracy in Latin America, it is no thanks to the empire, but in spite of it!

What happened at this Latin American summit would have been inconceivable not too long ago. But it shows how fast and far the U.S. empire has fallen under Bush Jr's regency. Even its own backyard has completely slipped away from its grip. It is not only Chavez who dares to defy Bush and the empire. More importantly it is Brazil and its president "Lula" and the other ex-banana republics.

Why Immortalists Oppose Miers Nomination: She's Anti-life
New York -- We ImmorTalists oppose Bush Junior's nomination of Harriet E. Miers to the U.S. Supreme Court, period. Why? Because she is anti-life!
Now that she has been exposed as a Religious Right fanatic and stealth candidate who would support a constitutional amendment to return American women to the era of back alley abortion. But also because she is almost certainly opposed to stem cell research, which holds the promise of breakthrough treatments and cures for cancers, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and spinal paralysis. Just to mention a few killers.
How can anyone who would sign the death sentence for countless millions suffering from cancer, heart disease etc. claim to be "pro-life"? No, she and the Religious Right are virulently, malignantly, and maliciously anti-life. We ImmorTalists are the *real* pro-life movement!
Stealth candidates for the Religious Right. If you think the Supreme Court which stole the election for Bush Junior in a judicial coup d'etat was abhorrent, you haven't seen nothin' yet.

Extreme Weather Act of God? Tell Swedes & Cubans about It!
New York -- The Times of London has seen fit to print a story claiming it was all an Act of God, not an Act of Bush. Yep, its U.S. editor tells us Katrina and the subsequent collapse of New Orleans' long-neglected levees resulting in over a thousand corpses is no fault of the Bush regime and its Death Society. Not even 10% of it.
You see, it's all in the "extreme weather" in Amerika which "is measured in the thousands of people it kills." Tell this to the Dutch and the Swedes who are no stranger to the most extreme of weather (i.e. the Swedish winter storms) or bad environments (all of Amsterdam is below water), but somehow have managed to escape disaster in the thousands of killed.
And let's not forget the Cuba and Taiwan which have faced Category 5 typhoons just recently, but did not suffer the same kinds of casualties!

ImmorTalist Party Opposes Roberts Nomination
Washington -- We can now see how utterly bankrupt the Democrats are. They are no opposition party. No opposition party worth its name would give a stealth candidate for the Religious Right like Roberts a free pass to the U.S. Supreme Court. This is a man who was against desegreation, against civil rights for blacks, against reproductive freedom. An extremist reactionary Catholic who will be the next Chief Justice.
If he is not, the Bush regime can easily prove it. By releasing all the information about him while he labored in the vineyard of extremist ultra-right-wing politics. But of course the regime refuses to do that. It refuses to release sufficient info about Roberts and demands the Democrats and U.S. Senate rubberstamp its choice. This is not what the Constitution demands of the U.S. Senate.
With Roberts' background, the burden should be on the regime to prove he is not an extremist.
But except for a handful, like Ted Kennedy and Harry Reid, most Democratic senators are all too obliging. One Democratic senator claimed he sees no reason to vote against Roberts. Well, of course not, since the White House has refused to release any info on this stealth candidate.
A dark chapter as Empire slips into the abyss. History will judge this lack of opposition harshly.

Katrina shows how far the U.S. has fallen. Category 5 hurricanes or typhoons have hit Taiwan, China, Cuba, and none of these countries have suffered the kind of devastation that New Orleans did.
Why?
Because none of these countries have allowed their levees and their basic infrastructure to deteriorate and collapse as the U.S. regime has. Yes, it is not an act of God. It is an act of Bush.
Does it take so much to understand that if you neglect your levees since the time of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, it is an accident waiting to happen. Especially if a Category 5 hurricane materializes.
But it is the nature of the Death Society that it has other priorities. Like an insane war in Iraq that is as unwinnable and as unstrategic as Vietnam. Not only has it killed close to 2,000 American boys, not to mention maim over 15,000 more, it has also robbed Americans of their future. It is a downright crime.

New Orleans Shows U.S. Now a Failed State
New York -- Why do the scenes from New Orleans so shock Americans and the world? Because they're what we expect to see in Bangladesh, not the world's "richest" society. Instead, what we've seen is gross negligence, incompetence, paralysis, and outrageous misappropriation of scarce resources. All the symptoms of a failed state. The Mortalist failed state.
China, Taiwan and Cuba were recently hit by horrendous hurricanes too. Yet they did not suffer the same devastation in human lives or properties that New Orleans and surrounding states did. Why? Because those governments did what had to be done. Like evacuating people. Unlike the Bush Regime, even Fidel's Cuba evacuated 1.5 million people to higher grounds and suffered not one casualty. And not just the patrons of plush hotels!
A responsible state does not allow its basic infrastructure to rot and collapse, putting its citizens' lives at mortal risk. As Andrew Young, the former mayor of Atlanta, pointed out, the levees in New Orleans have not been maintained or repaired basically since the time of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. So no surprise it didn't hold up. Only a failed state would allow that to happen, while allowing its military and its empire to suck up all the dwindling resources.
Only a grossly-negligent, sclerotic, and inept failed state would allow the disaster that is New Orleans to happen. No, Bush Junior is lying again. And coming up with lame excuses again. Just like the "great leaders" of third-world dictatorships. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) knew for a long time that a natural disaster like this is most likely to hit New Orleans. It's one of the top-three disaster scenarios. For all too many years. And yet when it happened, this failed state was caught with its pants scandalously down.
Yes, it is shocking. To call the U.S. a failed state. After all, it's supposedly the world's "richest" and only Superpower. And it is more used to calling others failed states than to thinking of itself as one. But under Bush Junior's regime, and in the dying days of Mortalist Empire, the U.S. is just that. No to Unconstitutional Subway Searches, Yes to Free Medical Tests
A week of outrageously illegal, unconstitutional searches has been imposed on New Yorkers. And supposedly there is not any resistance, claims the police. Even the New York Times dutifully trotted out article about how subway riders "concede" more restrictions are necessary. Really? This subway rider concedes no such thing. And will rather walk than kowtow to this authoritarian regime. This rider sees no reason why he should surrender his rights because of the Empire and Bush Junior's catastrophic foreign policies. And there are many more New Yorkers who feel the same.
In an ImmorTalist society, instead of clinging to an obsolete, sclerotic Empire (yep, that's what the Iraq fiasco shows), we will not stoop to illegal searches and seizures, but rather offer free, voluntary medical tests in the subway. Instead of subways swarming with police and soldiers like in a tinpot Third World dictatorship, we'd rather have them full of paramedics and medical technicians who can screen you for heart disease, cancer, stroke, hypertension, diabetes.
These are by far the biggest threats Manhattan subway riders face. 9/11 killed less than 3,000. The London subway attacks killed much less than a hundred. Pope Using Stem Cell Treatments?
How is the Pope staying alive? There are rumors that he is doing so by availing himself of new cutting-edge treatments resulting from stem cell research. Which the Pope has vigorously denounced and condemned. If true, this would make him a monumental hypocrite. Who would consign other Parkinson's sufferers to the grave.
In the name of all sufferers of Parkinson's, cancer, heart disease, and all other diseases which stem cell research holds the promise of breakthrough treatments -- even cures, we demand the Vatican releases all of the Pope's medical treatment records to make sure the Pope has not secretly availed of any medication or treatment which are the fruits of stem cells or stem cell research. We also demand that the doctors attest under oath and threat of perjury that they have not and will never administer such treatments or medications to the Pope as it contradicts his religious convictions.
We also ask the Vatican why the Pope is resorting to extraordinary medical intervention to save his life?
Isn't it long enough? The average lifespan in U.S, Italy and worldwide for a male is surely less than 84. The Pope has frequently warned against unnatural extensions of the average human lifespan. So now he should show us the way by his own deed. The Pope has had a long run. He should not be greedy. And make way for the younger generation itching to take over in the Vatican, the world's oldest gerontocracy.
The Pope should go the "natural" way and accept death as "natural." As God obviously summoning him back after a long reign. What is the point of hanging on when you need tracheostomies and ventilators? Especially when you are assured of a Next Life which is so vastly superior to this wretched one?
So why doesn't the Pope do as the above. Or as he has preached? Because like all of us, deep in his heart of hearts, he knows life is the supreme good. And in this life, not in the dubious next.

The Tsunami Next Time
New York Jan. 3, 2005 -- An early warning system could have prevented or greatly diminished the casualties. As of today, 155,000, and counting. But an early warning system was not a priority for the Mortalist governments of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
But even if such an early warning system were installed, the question is will it be used by Death Societies only when it's too late?
There was a report that the Thai government was alerted in advance to the possibility of tsunamis after the big earthquake in the Indian Ocean. But the powers that be decided against warning the public. After all, what if they're wrong. Think what that would do to Thai tourism.
Unforgivable? Most damnable? Absolutely. But this mindset which puts dollars above human lives is epidemic in Death Societies.
After all, this is THE argument put forth by the Bush regime against signing the Kyoto Accord. Bush Junior argues that since we cannot be 100% sure that global warming is indeed happening and/or we cannot be 100% sure that it will bring such catastrophic effects, then we are justified in doing nothing. Not even the most minimal under the Kyoto Accord.
When we are talking about the high probability of the utter destruction of human civilization as we know it today, Bush and his Death regime demands 100% certainty. We ImmorTalists say the burden should be on him and his ilk to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that global warming is not happening, and that it will not bring disaster (e.g usher in a new Ice Age).
After all, if we are wrong about the impending disasters from global warming, the Kyoto Accord will not destroy civilization, And definitely not the U.S. economy. The only "drawback" (to Bush) is less polluted air and ecosystem. But if the scientists are right, and Bush is wrong, then human life as we know it today will be devastated beyond recognition.
The tsunamis next time -- from global warming -- will make what we've seen to our horror so far seem like a tea party. And let's remember such tsumanis could drown even cities like New York and the California coast.
In Bush's anti-life scheme of things, preserving the growth in U.S. GDP is much more important than preserving the planet! But that's typical Mortalist Think.

Bush Must Take Stem Cell Pledge!
Win or lose tonight for Bush Junior, over 50,000 Americans -- many of whom are fighting heart disease, cancer, or one of the major killer-diseases -- have demanded that Bush take The Stem Cell Pledge. Which starts:
"I, George W. Bush, Jr., being of sound mind and free will, agree to reject all the fruits of stem cell research - that is, any and all therapy, treatment or cure resulting from stem cell research in the U.S. or anywhere in the world - for the rest of my life. So help me God."
This is one pledge Junior wouldn't want to take.
And one that over 50,000 people demand that he must. For if Bush wants to deprive us of the life-saving fruits of stem cell research, he must deprive himself first. And take The Stem Cell Pledge.
Heart Disease. Cancer. Diabetes. Parkinson's. Alzheimer's. Spinal injuries. Even Old Age itself! If you or your loved ones are suffering from these and many more major killer-diseases -- and all of us will sooner or later -- then Breakthroughs from stem cell research are your best hope.
But George W. Bush Jr. and his Religious Right fanatics say drop-dead. These so-called "pro-life" zealots and hypocrites are pushing to make stem cell research a crime! This outrageous stance exposes Bush, the Vatican, and TV evangelists once and for all as The Death Lobby. The pillars of The Death Society. The upholders of The Death Ideology -- which glorifies Death over Life.
And no one has called them on this. Not even Kerry who lamely raised the stem cell issue in only one of the debates. When it should have been an overriding issue.
His so-called wise men and handlers didn't and could never come up with The Stem Cell Pledge. Not surprising since they are trapped in Mortalist Think too. If Kerry had confronted Bush with the Stem Cell Pledge in the debates, he would have gotten a tidal wave of a response from all those fighting cancer, heart disease, etc. Instead of being in a dead heat in the polls, he would have been 20 points ahead.
So here is, in its entirety, The Stem Cell Pledge:

Why Stem Cell Not Campaign Issue
Why was stem cell research a non-issue in this endless campaign? They talked about everything except what you and I really care about. Everything but stem cell research. Which can save countless millions of Americans. In fact every American eventually. What better proof of the disconnect between the powers that be in the Death Society and you and me?
Okay, John Kerry did try to make an issue of it for about two days. But all because of celeb-driven photo-ops.The first Michael J. Fox. The second the widow of the newly-deceased Christopher Reeve. If not for these photo-ops, would stem cell even be a two-day issue?
Why? When stem cell research promises breakthrough treatments -- even cures -- for everything from heart disease, cancer, diabetes to Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and spinal injuries.
9/11 killed less than 3,000. Iraq has killed over 1,000 U.S. soldiers. Horrendous. But heart disease alone will kill over 750,000 Americans this year. And cancer over half a million.
So to prevent another 9/11, we have given the Pentagon a blank check. Spent over $200 billion just for the Iraq invasion and occupation. Bush demands another $75 billion more. There’s no end to that. It’s a black hole. And Bush and Ashcroft have replaced our constitutional civil liberties with the so-called ”Patriot’s Act.”
But to prevent 1.3 million U.S. deaths from cancer and heart disease which is a sure thing this and every year, what is Bush doing?
Well, he is going to criminalize -- yes, criminalize -- stem cell research in his second term. Yep, make his buddies in the Religious Right happy by making life-saving stem cell research a flaming felony. It’s called the ”Brownback-Landrieu Bill” and it will be a high priority if Bush steals the White House again. And he and the Religious Right claims to be ”pro-life.” As I pointed out in The ImmmorTalist Manifesto, he and the Religious Right are the Pro-Death Lobby. In fact, The Death Society establishment.
So how does Kerry fare? Well, Ron Reagan Junior claims that Kerry promised him on the phone that his first act as President would be to rescind Bush Junior’s executive decree cutting off federal funding for stem cell research. That’s better than Bush obviously.
But that’s not enough. We need the federal funding to pour into stem cell research. If its fruits -- its breakthroughs -- are to come in time for you and me.
And that’s extremely unlikely to happen even if Kerry gets elected. Because he’s boxed himself into a corner and is unlikely to be able to pull out from Iraq anytime soon. So there will be little or no money for stem cell research. Or so Kerry too will tell us. Even though he should know better. Since he’s had cancer -- prostate cancer -- himself.
No, let’s not be content with crumbs from the funding table! They have money to burn when it comes to reckless, unnecessary wars resulting from their steadfast blunders and disastrous foreign policies. But when it comes to saving our lives, they plead poverty and ”fiscal responsiblity.”
If they’re going to spend up to $300 billion at this early stage on the rinky-dink Iraq invasion and occupation, then we ImmorTalists demand they match this amount for stem cell research, for heart disease research, for cancer research, for anti-aging research!
But the fact that stem cell research is a flickering blip on the radar of this campaign proves that 1) we live in a Death Society and most are still acting according to their Mortalist programming, 2) Mortalist politics has a total disconnect with what you and I really care about 3) politicians and media are bankrupt and trapped in Mortalist ideology which glorifies sacrifice and death.
And this is why they cannot find the money or priority for stem cell research. Or for saving your life.

But that’s not enough. We need the federal funding to pour into stem cell research. If its fruits -- its breakthroughs -- are to come in time for you and me.
And that’s extremely unlikely to happen even if Kerry gets elected. Because he’s boxed himself into a corner and is unlikely to be able to pull out from Iraq anytime soon. So there will be little or no money for stem cell research. Or so Kerry too will tell us. Even though he should know better. Since he’s had cancer -- prostate cancer -- himself.
No, let’s not be content with crumbs from the funding table! They have money to burn when it comes to reckless, unnecessary wars resulting from their steadfast blunders and disastrous foreign policies. But when it comes to saving our lives, they plead poverty and ”fiscal responsiblity.”
If they’re going to spend up to $300 billion at this early stage on the rinky-dink Iraq invasion and occupation, then we ImmorTalists demand they match this amount for stem cell research, for heart disease research, for cancer research, for anti-aging research!
But the fact that stem cell research is a flickering blip on the radar of this campaign proves that 1) we live in a Death Society and most are still acting according to their Mortalist programming, 2) Mortalist politics has a total disconnect with what you and I really care about 3) politicians and media are bankrupt and trapped in Mortalist ideology which glorifies sacrifice and death.
And this is why they cannot find the money or priority for stem cell research. Or for saving your life.

To Prevent More 9/11, Be Like Sweden
In his new videotaped message in which he addressed the American people directly, Osama bin Laden inadvertently gives Americans the roadmap to peace and security: Become more like Sweden.
Bush Junior and all the Empire's propagandists want Americans to believe that Osama and Moslems hate Western civilization so much that it does not matter what we do, they will still want to destroy us.
Osama says Not True. He points out "Security is an important foundation of human life and free people do not squander their security." Then he asks his rebuttal-cum-question. "Contrary to Bush's claims that we hate freedom, let him tell us why we did not attack Sweden for example."
Good question. After all, Sweden is as secular, permissive, and democratic as any Western society gets. And a "weak" and "easy" target at that. So why hasn't it been a target?
But the Swedes are smart. They gave up empire long ago. And realized that they can live in more prosperity and a lot more peace if they'd just stick to their own business. If they would just adhere to a wise foreign policy of scrupulous neutrality. If they would make friends and influence peoples by giving generously in foreign economic aid. And it works. Sweden is an idyllic haven and oasis of peace and prosperity.
Yes, there is a way out. And it's by changing U.S. foreign policy from blatantly imperial to one like Sweden. It's by pulling out of Iraq immediately. And by being a fair and evehanded broker between the Israelis and the Palestinians and bringing about a real lasting peace which the two peoples deserve. And which world stability demands.
Doing the above will pull the rug from under Osama. He'll be rebel without a cause. Rebel without recruits.
No, it's not true that Americans have no choice but ruinous protracted war. A war without end. A war that could be a new Hundred Years War. No, it's not true that we need to hitch our futures to the new "crusade" against Islam by Bush Junior and his core support, the Religious Right. As this new "crusade" is already well on its way to ending like the medieval ones. In disaster.
In one fell stroke, Americans can live in peace and prosperity once more. Just change foreign policy. Shut down Empire, which is in rigor mortis anyway. And be more like Sweden.

Bush's Crusade is Not Ours
Bush's "War on Terror" is a Crusade against Islam. Just read The New York Times Magazine cover story last week "Without a Doubt." (Link below) There can be no doubt about this. It doesn't take a genius to see it. Why? Because Bush himself has on at least on two occasions revealed that his so-called "War on Terror" is a "crusade."
The first time was on Sept. 16th. And nope, it wasn't a slip of the tongue as the White House Press Secretary tried to dissemble. Because two weeks later, Bush used exactly the same word again. "Crusade."
For those of you who are not history buffs, the Crusades were a series of expeditions launched by Christian kings in the middle ages to retake Jerusalem from the Moslems.
Bush, as a fundamentalist Christian converted by Billy Graham himself, shares the Religious Right's belief that they must wage war against Islam and exterminate all nonbelievers (hint: Moslems) to fulfill the doomsday prophecies from the Book of Revelations. As interpreted by the Religious Right's soothsayers of course.
Half of the U.S. has been conned. Conned into believing that they're engaged in a war not of their own choice or making but one that's unprovoked and forced upon them by enemies who will stop at nothing to destroy them. But this is simply not true. And the Times story makes this shockingly clear.
This "Crusade" was scripted, produced, and staged Bush Junior and the Religious Right Party (aka The Republican Party.) Americans will defend their country when there is no choice. But two-thirds of Americans are sane and not Religious Right fanatics, and we simply do not care to join a new Crusade against Islam. Which will end as disastrously as the medieval Crusades though millions believed they were ordered and protected by God Almightly himself.
At least 66% of Americans will strongly refuse to support any Religious-Right-fueled all-out war on Islam. They don't wish to play any supporting role in the Christian fundamentalist belief that the world must race towards Armaggedon for Jesus to return again and set up his kingdom.
We Immortalists especially don't care about it. And we shall have no part in it. And we shall be the vanguard voice of the American people in this.
